What is this loud noise when I shift into D?

This only happens in the morning… When I shift into "D" there's a loud noise like loud chattering coming from under the hood. Only happens in "D" and only in morning. Never happens rest of day.

It's a 3 year old Honda Civic with 60k miles.

I have FD1 Honda Civic (1.8L SOHC iVTEC), what's the best upgrade to do to gain power? Have the cam ground? Already has a Mugen Exhaust?

Manual vs automatic?

I've driven both. I still prefer automatic. Don't get me wrong manual is fun to drive but it's not as fast or not very practical anymore. What's your opinion on both? If you could choose one over the other which would you choose. I have a manual but it's way harder work for little return. I just don't see it. I'm thinking of getting an automatic.
