Can I sue a mechanic for not fixing the car?

Here is the story. Last year our Honda broke down. We took it to a shop and he tells us it is the transmission. We decide to take it to the shop that we have taken the car to since we bought it in 2013. I'm %100 against this I have been against going to them since the second time they put an engine in the car but it is not mine it is my boyfriends so ultimately his decision. They take a look and decide it is the transmission as well. We pay 1800 for them to fix it. When we get the car back we had it a few days then the same thing happened to it that happened to it when it stopped working. We take it back they work on it we get it back, less then a week later it does the same thing. We take it back and they take it to a Honda dealership who decide it is the brain and that 1500 dollars might fix it. I seriously feel like they have messed up this car just like they messed up our first car. We're in so much debt from trying to get this car fixed and no car!
