Car experts say avoid 4 cylinder cars due to lack of power. Agree or disagree?

The lack of power especially while merging on the freeway and climbing hills always makes me nervous and even scared sometimes when a semi is right on my bumper. But before that I had a V6 SUV which had a lot of power but only got 17mpg while my current car gets 50mpg.

So which should I choose… CR-V or Pilot?
